Janice Rae Clayton, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away unexpectedly on the morning of November 28, 2009.
From the beginning Janice was unique. She was the first born of the first twin girls born in the county on the 1st of January 1953. Throughout her life Janice was known for her stunning work as a seamstress, from her children’s school dance dresses to her family and friend’s apparel, as well as her youngest daughters and best friends wedding dresses. She was also extremely skilled at hardanger embroidery, winning many awards, and beautifully adding to her families and friends homes. Even with all of this craftsmanship, she still made time for beautiful bead work and jewelry.
Janice was preceded in death by her father, T. Wayne Sutton, and her infant daughter, Laura Ellen Clayton. She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Charles (Chick) Clayton; daughter Terisa Clayton and grandson Brenden (Gus) of Winter Haven, FL; daughter Matisha and son-in-law Jim Herriman of Austin, TX; mother Dorrine S. Dix of Stockton, KS; twin sister Janine K. Gilbert of Omaha, NE, sister Janette LeRoy of Omaha, NE, sister Judy Sander of Stockton, KS, several nephews, grandnephews and a grandniece. Janice will be missed dearly by her family and friends, which are too numerous to count. We can humbly take comfort in the thought that Janice is now pain free, and has been joined with her daughter, father, best friend, and many others who left us prematurely.
Visitation will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home in Colorado Springs on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm. A service will be held in Stockton, KS, on Wednesday, December 2nd at our funeral home at 6:00pm, with Reverend Darlene Nonhof officiating. Private Graveside services will follow Thursday morning.
