Funeral services for Reed C. Hopkins, age 92, of Woodston will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton with Reverend Steve Slate officiating. Mr. Hopkins passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville.
He was born March 30, 1917 in Stockton the son of Ray and Maude (Coldiron) Hopkins. On September 25, 1965, he married Anna Clara (Chapman) in Naponee, Nebraska. She passed away September 16, 1987.
He worked on a ranch in the sand hills of Nebraska, and enjoyed gardening, horses, reading and woodworking. Reed graduated from Auctioneer School and was an auctioneer for many years. Mr. Hopkins lived in Henry Lake, Idaho, Seattle, Washington, Naponee, Nebraska and Black Duck, Minnesota, before moving to Woodston in 1982.
Survivors include his step daughters Mamie Way of Fairmont, Oklahoma, Lynda Zade of Bloomington, Nebraska, Thelma Garcia of Woodston; step son Bill Meise of Bloomington, Nebraska; 8 step grandchildren; 18 step great grandchildren; 11 step great great grandchildren. His wife Anna Clara Hopkins and his parents preceded him in death.
Cremation is planned and there will be no visitation. Burial will be at a later date in the Naponee Cemetery in Naponee, Nebraska. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stockton Ambulance and may be sent in care of the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton, Kansas 67669.
